Art Humor!!!

Recently a guy in Paris nearly got away with stealing several paintings from the Louvre.
However, after planning the crime, breaking in, evading security, getting out and escaping with the goods, he was captured only two blocks away when his van ran out of gas.

When asked how he could mastermind such a crime and then make such an obvious error, he replied: "I had no Monet to buy Degas to make the Van Gogh."

So here it is:

Panbesy : I ask Maisie for a week's supply of panbesy to try. Effects was really bad for me. My heart beats so fast, & I wasn't even doing anything- just sitting around. I totally lost my appetite, as in, I don't even feel like eating at all. I almost went through the whole day without food, yet I don't feel hungry! No wonder I develop a headache. The last time I was at Dr Keith's clinic, besides doing the whitening injections (which I love) Maisie my friend did get something else from him.

She has put on much weight since her first child. Before she was like me - kinda willowy (Now I'm not either ....sigh.... ) Anyway, since we were there at Parsons Clinic & Dr Keith was in front of us, Maisie just blurted out :" Can I have some slimming pills?" ...lol... I didn't expect that. But was secretly please she ask anyways, as I too think I should lose some weight.

Then Dr Keith started giving us some interesting tips. E.g.
1) Don't drink water when you are not thirsty. Bingo! we do that all the time, no wonder, now we have serious water retention.
2) If you have to drink soft drinks, Advisable to replace them with isotonic drinks
3) Cut down on spicy food, as it increases the appetite.
4) Replace fruits with vegetables for fiber. Fruits are too sweet (don't eat them if you serious about weight loss)

Maisie was given panbesy (2 months), GarbaSlim, a popular fat burner ( 3 months) & she decided to take the Vitamin D jab. Because she wanted faster results, Vitamin D jab will help her body increase it's own metabolism. I didn't know that! Interesting right? Went home to google (lots of info about the benefits of Vit D)  & I was very glad I took that too ! 
Oh... I bought the fat burner Garbaslim as well.

That's like 2 months back. Maisie has lost 7 kg!!!! Though she's not back to her willowy self yet, she's looking very good now. She's going back to Dr Keith for more supplies ....haha...

The most expensive painting sold in 2017: Salvator Mundi, by Leonardo da Vinci (c. 1500)

Known as “The Last da Vinci,” this painting is one of 16 paintings by Leonardo that is still in existence today, and the last known work still in a private collection. This sale smashed the record for the most expensive piece of art ever sold – making history. The last remaining record was held at $300 million, privately sold. Before the sale, art appreciators from around the world lined up for viewings held in Hong Kong, London, San Francisco, and New York, to catch a glimpse at the rediscovered Da Vinci painting.

The bidding for this painting went on for 20 minutes – jumping by 20, then 30 million each bid. The buyer has now been revealed to be Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Meanwhile, the art community still recovers from shock.

Such a bidding war has art buyers wringing their hands over the future economics of art dealings. Forecasting has put the first $1 billion painting to be sold in 2030 with the current trendline!

Another interesting painting sold 2017 was   Andy Warhol (1986) Sixty Last Suppers for $63.3 million!!!

Whitening Injections with Dr Keith Ong @ Parsons Singapore !!!

My friend told me about the 'famous whitening injections" she read at some blogs. I check the blogs out & decide to try it. You know, I'm the kind that's interested in anything whitening. Also I do know the clinic & doctor (Dr Keith Ong ) quite well. I went there for other facial & Vitamin C procedures before, but that's some time already.

To be honest, I'm the fair sort. But I'm into my 30's now. So on close scrutiny, I see tiny lines on my face (stress) & I also wanted the dewy look. Apparently these whitening jabs, help with all that, that is besides whitening as well. Not bad right?

I went with my friend, booked the appointment on a Saturday. When I stepped into the room, Dr Keith immediately remember me, so nice (I've not seen him for about 4 years). We do a tiny bit of catch-up & after that he explained what this whitening jab is all about & what it can do. Long story short : it'll be great for whitening, eliminate tiny lines like mine also it'll make my face look smaller! So what am I waiting for? ....lol....

The procedure: Nurse apply numbing cream on my face. Let it rest for like 10 mins. Dr Keith started 'doing' these micro jabs on my whole face, he's really fast. No pain, just feel a bit nervous as it's many tiny jabs. After about another 10 mins, it's my friend's turn.

When it's over, we decided to go home. As it's very sunny outside. Now 2 weeks later, the results is better than I hoped for. My face seems smaller, smooth & fairer. Not Bad at all. My friend's results is more obvious as her skin condition wasn't very good to begin with. She's very happy!!!

Konstantin Lupanov , young talented artist from Russian

This young and incredibly talented artist from Krasnodar , Russia, calls his paintings “fun and irresponsible garbage.” Konstantin Lupanov paints what he loves. The primary subjects of his paintings are his friends, acquaintances, relatives, and his beloved cat, Philip. The simpler the subject, says the artist, the truer the painting. Isn't that awesome ???

Created by the art website Today Is Art Day, this figurine is made especially for those who are a bit kookoo for the classic art. As you’d expect, this Van Gogh action figure has a detachable ear and even some of his most famous paintings, available for exposition on a fold-out easel.

Most expensive painting in 2016: Monet's Meule

$81.4 million, sold via Christie’s New York on November 16

One of the last in Monet’s epic Grainstack series, Meule not only set the record for 2016 but also for a Monet piece, with the last record being set in June 2008 when an iconic Water Lilies piece sold for approximately $63.6 million. In anticipation of holding an exhibition, Monet completed 25 pieces in 1890, recording the differences in seasons and time of day. With a passion to represent ‘moments in time’, Meule has a stunning effect which makes you feel the scene as if you were there.

Art is Simple, dont over think, Just do it !

You don't even need any 'artistic talents'! I'm serious. All you need is some interest. Sketching or drawing is about observation, about dismantling what you are looking at, into lines, curves that make it up, & then translating or recording them on paper.

That's how most things work right? A Mozart Classical piece? it starts with a single note. Cantonese cooking? All you need is a step by step recipe & a wok!

Sketching or drawing works the same way. Everything you want to sketch is made up of lines &
curves. And you don't even need a perfect straight line or a perfect circle or curves. You don't need to learn to draw lines & curves, any more than you need a lesson on how to boil water or put on your clothes right? It's a combination of those parts (lines & curves) that makes the idea of sketching a little challenging yet most satisfying. Just a little challenging, definitely doable no matter who you are. All you need is to change your thinking. Art is not about perfection, we are not drawing up a blue print for a building, we are not trying to be an architect or engineer.

If you look at children's art, you'll see what I mean. Most of them are just so endearing & charming right? Get what I mean?

Ben Rubin's awesome Subway Doodle

Have you ever heard of Ben Rubin? Well you might not, but you will soon ! Since I chanced upon his work, I know I just have to add them in my blog. They are seriously fun & creatively ! Ben Rubin creatively integrates cartoon characters into normal subway scenes he saw on his way to & fro work on the subway in New York City. After I put up Johnny Depps painting, many of my friends were intrigued:) They didn't know he could paint that well! It got them quite curious. They were wondering, who other celebrities do it? Well here are more:

This beautiful painting of a dog is painted by the 43rd president of the America , George W Bush! Not bad right? In fact he has painted like 50 of them:)

Above watercolor landscape is done by Prince of Wales, Prince Charles. It's really pretty good. 

The above is by non-other than Paul McCartney. I think people could pay serious money for this eventually, not because he's part of Beatles but because it's really GOOD.

My Trip to Paris - the Lourve & Musee d' Orsay

Finally I've some time to blog about my Trip to Paris. My first stop is no surprise -the Louvre. Do you know it used to be a fortress, back in the 12th century. And then it was just a place for King Louis XIV to keep royal art. Well that's what I read in one brochure. I looked around & try to imagine the place back then, a few nobles & curly wigs wandering leisurely among the statues. Now it's mobbed with tourists with backpacks, cameras & hand-phones all there to see some of the most famous paintings & sculptures in the world.

The first one I recognized was Venus de milo. Heard she originally had arms but they broke it off! Winged Victory of Samothrace is missing a head. Piage who was with me commented that, that must be worse than not having arms ... we silently laughed ! We make our way to the Mona Lisa, which is surprisingly tiny for such a famous portrait.

Then its on to the Musee d' Orsay, a former train station that is now home to lots of paintings by legendary impressionists. We found Monet's famous water lilies. I imagine diving into the cool, light dappled water. I think it's interesting that Monet had a Japanese garden. Piage said we have something in common as we take Japanese food all the time ...lol.. Very little people know that he was going blind, that's probably why his paintings are so blurry. He saw the world differently & yet his unique vision made things beautiful.

We study his blossoms for a while , then move on to Dega's ballerinas. Piage didn't like the ballerinas too much. She said they reminded her of things she could never do with her chubby legs...lol.. We spent hours looking at all these beautiful Art. Felt so reluctant when it's time to go.

Why do people paint? Why make ART ?

Why do people paint? Why make ART ?

People ask me that, all the time since I started this blog. I'm no expert but Isn't it obvious? Some talented people make money from it, most others just do it for fun. And Art does kinda engages you & stops time. Most of us live in a virtual world these days. But when you paint or sketch what's around, you see it for what it is.You'll be present right there, right now in the real world. Instead of day dreaming of all kinds of nonsense like we usually do, you'll be able to stop, clear the mind & just be. It's almost spiritual & you don't need advice from some big time guru. Or pay money to go to some far away exotic meditation retreat. Just a sketch book & a pencil will do.

Like a written diary, through art, you could also be recording your life. A small sketch in your sketchbook transform those everyday moments into something significant. What you eat for breakfast, the view outside your window, your beloved pet or even your own selfie! Your sketches will give you perspective on what really matters. You'll never be bored again. Waiting for something be it for the bus, mrt or your dentist, in between commercial breaks when watching lousy TV programs, taking a 3hour flight to Hong Kong- sketch something. Make these 'lost' moments count. Make it more interesting & worthwhile. Overtime you will build up a book of memories, a true record of what truly went on in your life.

Since I last wrote about Sylvester Stallone's art, my friends have been asking me which other "unlikely" celebrities are painters too. Well here's one very famous one Johnny Depp: & he's really very good !

Impulse Buying... Oops I did it again !

Impulse buying??? Experts say don't do it, especially for ART!!!

You are in a beautiful gallery , the knowledgeable sales lady is telling you how wonderful the piece is, she started telling you about it's history, or the artist- suddenly you felt personal , you started falling in love with it, you even feel obliged after the nice knowledgeable lady had spent so much time explaining to you .................. Well experts said  STOP!!!!!! ..........don't even think about it.... don't buy it!

Chances are when you bring it home, you'll realize, that it has no relevance in your life!

It's different when you are buying something small, or for that matter when you are on vacation, buying a small souvenir, it's ok because you are just having fun at a small expense. It's very different when you are making a serious purchase costing thousands of dollars.

It happened to me. I bought a painting for $10,000- sometime back,  brought it home & it don't even go with anything in my apt! Then I swear I'll never do it again, & guess what ? 
Last night, I did it again !

Sylvester Stallone an artist?

I was kinda surprise when I read that action star Sylvester Stallone has been painting for decades. In fact his Real Love exhibition is running right now in Nice, France till 30th May.

“Real Love” includes the actor’s artwork from 1975 to the present and features an interesting piece "Finding Rocky".  He commented on the piece. “There is no way you can’t be affected by what you see on the television, by what you see on the street and so it definitely sinks into the work too. I won’t say pessimistic but it’s questioning, you know, what is life, what is all about, is it worth of it.”

Stallone also explained that he has a different take on art compared to other artists.

“My art isn’t one that educates, you know. It’s not making social statements. It’s not drawing conclusions. It’s not declaring what is right. It is not political. It’s just one man’s struggle and success and all emotions you go along in life, ups and downs.”

Stallone also pointed out that painting is “the most honest form of all the arts. Because it's simple, unforgiving & it's there to be studied, up close & personal. And you cant defend it, it's there. it's the most honest of all arts !

I find that pretty interesting :))
